Ringgold wins battle of the Tigers

The Ringgold Tigers captured a 3820 Region 5-AAA victory on Friday night at Homecoming against visiting Adairsvill­e.

Ringgold jumped to 2-0 in the region with a another superb performanc­e from senior QB Slade Dale.

The veteran signal caller said it was “the biggest game of the year,” following the previous week’s 48-8 win over Gordon Central.

Dale was 10-of-14 with 133 yards passing with three touchdowns Friday.

Two of the scores were to Kile Sholl for 15 and 35 yards and Christian Plott caught a 21-yard strike.

Ringgold coach Robert Akins said he was pleased with his team’s performanc­e against Adairsvill­e.

“I was just proud of each and every one of our kids,” he said. “I thought they really stepped up. They had a lot of confidence and played hard the entire game.”

Akins said several of his players also stepped up at the half when the coaches were planning to make a few adjustment­s.

“We had several of them come up and say, ‘coach we’ve got this.,” he said. “That was impressive.” Akins said his Tigers are now gearing up for the final stretch of the season and focusing on Sonoravill­e.

“In the past we’ve been known to get overconfid­ent,” he said. “I just hope we can stay focused with the task at hand.”

The green-and-gold, who fought until the end, scored two touchdowns midway through the fourth quarter on a 3-yard run by Marcus Childers, and an 11-yard run by Sidnee Johnson.

Adairsvill­e’s only other score was a 4-yard run by Tristin Smith with 2:32 to play in the open-

ing quarter. Dakota Hines kicked the PAT to tie the game.

Ringgold, which weill face Sonoravill­e on the road Friday, took the lead at the 5:36 mark of the first quarter. D.L. Goins scored one of three of his touchdowns for the evening on a plunge from the 1. He would go on to score from the 2 with :26 to play in the opening quarter, extending the lead to 13-7. His third touchdown was the final score of the night, a 9-yard run with 3:10 remaining in the game.

Sholl led the Tigers with 86-yards on 16 carries, and 91-yards receiving on five catches.

Dale had 80-yards on 19 attempts.

Goins finished the game with 74-yards on 17 carries.
