LFO Warrior Band has two big weekends

- By Misty Martin

The Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors Band finished second overall out of four classes in the Armuchee Invitational on Saturday.

The Red-and-White, led by Rich Stichler, came within one point of Grand Champion, Pepperell while performing to the show titled Sir Elton John. Songs include Funeral for a Friend, Love Lies Bleeding, Your Song and Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.

Stichler said he was stoked for his 89-piece band, under the command of drum major senior Alexis Bivens and band captain and senior Cassy Flowers.

“I think they’ve put a lot of work in this season,” he said. “For us to get so much done not even half way through marching season is impressive.”

Stichler said it’s been an exciting two weeks for the Warriors, who performed during the Georgia Tech football game at halftime the previous week. He said it was a great atmostphere to play in and was glad his kids could be a part of it.

“It’s not about us going and winning something, but it’s about entertaining our crowd and providing support for the team,” he said. “Everyone really likes this year’s show. I think that’s important. I like to treat it like a college football game and everywhere we go, someone says we sound like a college band.”

Stichler’s son Jarrett attends Georgia Tech, where he marches in the band.

His other son, Evan, is a 2013 graduate of Uinversity of Georiga Redcoat Marching Band.

Other seniors in the LFO band include Kelsy Mason, Deanna Reece, Jennifer Crenshaw, Katherine McCoy, Angel Parker, Bethany Pettyjohn, Chelsea Scheer, Katelan Brown, Aaron Gentry, Cody Pettitt, Jason Campbell, Alex Hairston, Misty Walker, Teri Shaver, Chris Delmas, Hunter Lowery, James Dunwoody, Michael Mills, McKenzie Brown, Rebecca Chadwick, Erin Murphy, Bryana Patton.
