Middle school football: GLMS defeats Warriors, 28-16

-

The Gordon Lee Middle School football team spotted visiting Lakeview a touchdown on Thursday then sealed the game with a fourthquarter score as they beat the Warriors, 28-16, to even their record at 22 on the season.

A touchdown and a 2-point conversion gave Lakeview an 8-0 lead after one quarter, but the Trojans got six points back early in the second quarter on a Hunter Clark TD run, set up by a 20-yard pass from Jack Solmon to Kannen Derryberry. The conversion attempt failed.

Gordon Lee would take the lead later in the half on a TD run by Dylan Minghini. Minghini would add the conversion to give his team a 148 lead at intermission.

A 60-yard Braden Jarvis punt return accounted for the scoring in the third quarter as the Trojans increased their lead to 20-8. Lakeview would close to within four points on a fourth-quarter score, but Gordon Lee would answer on Minghini's second rushing touchdown of the night and Derryberry added the conversion to put the game out of reach.

Jared Spradlin, Caleb Vines, and Harrison Moore anchored the defense for the Trojans, and head coach Tony McAllister credited assistant coaches Brad Gray, Adam Crowley, and Steve Bennett for solid halftime adjustments that changed the tide of the game.

The Trojans will face Saddle Ridge (1-4) next Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The game will be played at LaFayette High School
