- By Matt Ledger

LaFayette’s Marsh House will hold it’s ninth annual Heritage Days festival on Oct. 5.

The fundraiser event is a celebration of local history during an afternoon picnic setting, lasting from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 308 North Main St.

The antebellum house itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, since it dates back to 1836.

Vendors will have timeless dishes like Brunswick stew and favorites for children, including funnel cakes and hot dogs.

The homemade bake sale is a treat for visitors of all ages.

Crafter booths will have a wide variety of items for sale, from handmade jewelry to vintage glass and antique china sets.

Vince Stallings returns for another impassioned gospel performance and other entertainers include, Haleigh Parker, Laney Marks, Amy Green, Tanya Torbet.

Tours of the Marsh House will be conducted, costing a mere dollar per person, including the slave cabin completed in the past year.

Gordon Hall/Chattooga Academy will feature a free Civil War exhibit, in keeping with the 150 Anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga.

A few bloodstains and hoof prints were visible along the original hardwood floors (which were covered a century ago) of the home. A reminder that Union soldiers once seized the home briefly.

Confederate General Braxton Bragg would later finalize the plans for the Battle of Chickamauga nearby, underneath a large oak tree in 1863.

Proceeds from the event benefit the preservation efforts of the Marsh House.
