Man, friend charged with stealing from great-grandma’s house
A Fort Oglethorpe man and his buddy are behind bars in Catoosa County on theft charges after both were linked to stolen property taken from the man’s great-grandmother’s house on several occasions.
According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:
Corey Duane Shavers and Christopher Ryan Posey, both of Hays Street in Fort Oglethorpe, were arrested on Friday, April 24.
Shavers was charged with theft by taking, while Posey was charged with theft by receiving stolen property.
Both men remained in Catoosa County jail as of Monday, April 27, with bond set at $2,500 each.
Officers spoke with an 85-year-old woman on April 21 in reference to several items missing from her Hays Street home over the course of a couple of weeks.
The woman claimed she first realized $300 in cash was missing from within the home, and then realized over the course of the next couple of weeks that a watch and necklace were missing from the home. She later discovered her iPad, Kindle, and medications missing.
The medication included 10 hydrocodone pills. A bottle of Scotch was also taken during the timeframe Corey D. Shavers the thefts occurred.
“She stated the only other person who was staying at the residence with access to the items was her great grandson, Corey Shavers,” officer James Davis said. “She stated Shavers had been living with her granddaughter for a few months, but that they hadn’t heard from him since they questioned him about the items, at which time he became angry.”
On April 23, one of the victim’s other granddaughters observed a Facebook post on the victim’s profile stating, “I need help,” and listing a phone number, reports show. Christopher Ryan Posey
The granddaughter called the number and spoke to a man who had gained access to the account by using the missing iPad that still had the victim’s account information saved and pulled up.
The man said he’d purchased the iPad recently, and even produced a bill of sale where he’d bought it from Christopher Posey.
“He also advised that Posey had contacted him again asking if he would like to purchase a Kindle tablet,” Davis said.
Detectives took the information, and were able to catch up with and arrest both Posey and Shavers. Both were booked into jail just after 5 p.m. Friday evening.
