Track: Generals win at home, Lady Generals tie for first

The Heritage girls track team won nine events in a four-team meet at Heritage on Thursday, but still ended up tied for first place with Gordon Lee, who won six different events.

Heritage and Gordon Lee each finished with 193 points, easily outdistanc­ing Southeast Whitfield (103) and Ridgeland (62) on the day.

Nyzaih Moore won both the 100 (12.94) and the 200 (27.37) for the Lady Generals. Kailyn McLaughlin swept the 100 hurdles (18.08) and the 300 hurdles (54.34), while Raleigh Lewis won the shot put (34-0.5) and the discus (111-10).

Other winners for the Lady Generals included Noor Sabeeh in the 3200 (13:25), Mariah McCrary in the triple jump (286.5) and the 4x100 “A” relay team (52.97).

On the boys’ side, Gordon Lee won six events to four each for Heritage and Ridgeland. Southeast finished with two wins. However, the Generals finished with 177 points to hold off the field in a close finish. Gordon Lee (153) was second, followed by Ridgeland (144) and Southeast (141).

Winners for the Generals were Alex Lacy in the 200 (23.06), Jerryd Tennyson in the 1600 (4:51), Lavarius Hood in the shot put (44.75) and the 4x100 “B” relay team (44.24).

Lady Generals sixth, Generals ninth at Mohawk

The Heritage girls sixth overall out of 15 teams at Saturday’s Mohawk-Warrior Invitation­al track meet at Gordon Central High School, while the Generals placed ninth out of 16 teams on the boys’ side.

Lewis was the only event winner for Heritage as she won the discus (124-5). Lewis also took fourth in the shot put (33-0). Alex Gass had a solid day for the Navy-and-Red, placing third in both the 800 (2:42.59) and the 3200 (12:58.49).

Madelyn Thompson earned third place in the 100 hurdles (18.18), while Emilee Jones was fourth in the 400 (1:06.04). Katelyn Thompson placed eighth in the 800 (2:50.85).

McLaughlin was fifth in the 100 hurdles (18.20) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (53.72). Moore placed sixth in the 200 (27.52) and seventh in the 100 (13.14). Lillian Black was sixth in the 1600 (6:26.55) and the 4x100 relay team took fourth (52.72).

Heritage finished with 57 points. Woodland (Cartersvil­le) won the meet with 88.5 points, followed in the top five by Dalton (79), Haralson County (74), Riverdale (68) and Rockmart (60.5).

Hood was second in the shot put for the Heritage boys (45-5.5) and third in the discus (122-3), while Matthew Heaps was second in the discus (124-0). Tennyson had a solid day, placing
