Bridge construction underway along Three Notch Road in Catoosa County, expected to take a year
Residents are having to find an alternate route for an area of Three Notch Road in Catoosa County after the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) began a year-long bridge replacement project last week.
The bridge, which covers Peavine Creek, has caused traffic to be redirected onto Post Oak Road and Poplar Springs Road.
The project is expected to take a year to complete.
“This local road was closed for bridge construction starting Monday, Oct. 16,” said Mohamed Arafa, communications officer for GDOT. “We understand this bridge project may cause the public some inconvenience, but upon completion, it will improve the flow of traffic in the area, make it safer, and help the public get where they need to go in Catoosa County.”
Arafa says that although the traffic issues will be in existence for almost a year, the bridge got to a point where it needed to be replaced.
“The old bridge was built in 1965 and was now in poor condition,” Arafa said. “Georgia DOT inspectors recommended the replacement of this posted local bridge.”
The project will cost north of $2 million in total, and is slated to be finished late next summer.
“Georgia DOT awarded a contract to C.W. Matthews Contracting Company, Inc. of Marietta, Ga., back in Aug., and issued a notice to proceed early Sept.,” Arafa said. “This bridge project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2018 at a construction cost of $2,225,692.”
