Late 3-pointer by CCS prevents Lady Warriors from 3-0 start Gracie O’Neal places third in Foot Locker South Regional race

The LFO Lady Warriors opened the 2017-18 season with a dominant defensive performanc­e against Lookout Valley last Tuesday afternoon.

LFO held the Lady Jackets to just 16 percent shooting from the floor for the game (7-of-44) and outscored them 21-0 in the third quarter, before coasting to a 57-25 victory on the first day of the Chattanoog­a Christian Invitation­al at CCS.

The Lady Warriors also held a distinct 48-29 advantage on the glass against the overmatche­d Lady Jackets.

Macey Gregg had a game-high 16 points to go with six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Newcomer Milijah Williams dropped in 14, while Gracen Hobbs made a triumphant return to the court after last year’s injury by scoring 13 points and grabbing six boards.

LFO girls 55, Polk County 42

In the opening game at CCS on Friday, the Lady Warriors outscored the Lady Wildcats in the opening quarter, 13-0, and went on to a 13-point victory.

LFO got back-to-back 3-pointers by Milijah Williams and Ali Kelley near the end of the third quarter to push the lead to 20 points and Polk never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Macey Gregg had 15 points and five steals. Williams picked up 10 points and four assists. Infiniti Foster had seven points while Kelley and Anna Rountree added six each. LFO was outrebound­ed, 29-23, but had just 13 turnovers while forcing Polk into 31 on the other end.

Chatt. Christian 50, LFO 48

Chloe Pruitt hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Lady Chargers, the final one coming with six seconds to play that lifted the home team to the win and handed the Lady Warriors (2-1) their first loss of the season on Saturday.

Gregg had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals in the loss. Foster dropped in 11 points, followed by Williams with six. Zarria Nelson had five points and grabbed eight boards.

LFO will play at Trion on Tuesday in another non-region game.

The high school cross country season may be over in Georgia, but Gordon Lee’s Gracie O’Neal hasn’t put her running shoes away just yet.

The 2017 GHSA Class A Public School state champion took part in the 39th Foot Locker Cross Country Championsh­ips in Charlotte, N.C. this past Saturday and finished third overall in the South Region Sophomore Girls’ race.

O’Neal clocked in at 18:53 on the 5K course, finishing four seconds behind Ashlyn Little of Waynesburg, Ky. and 30 seconds in back of winner Jonna Strange of Stateville, N.C.

A total of 91 runners from North Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas competed in the race.
