Warriors face Volunteer State squads to begin new season

- By Scott Herpst

At last week’s Chattanooga Christian Thanksgiving Invitational, the LFO Warriors fell behind 19-7 after the first quarter and trailed 4120 at halftime in route to a season-opening 65-50 loss to the Lookout Valley Yellow Jackets on Monday.

Ruddy Ware had 18 points in the loss while Patryk Gilbert finished with 10.

On Friday afternoon, the Warriors led by nine in the first quarter before going into the locker room with a 33-30 lead over the Wildcats from Benton, Tennessee.

Polk rallied to take a one-point lead early in the third quarter, but the Warriors would go on an 11-5 run to rally ahead, 47-42, with 2:50 to play in the third quarter.

However, the remaining 10:50 would simply be a disaster for the Red-and-White as the Warriors (02) managed just two field goals the rest of the way and just one in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, the Wildcats used their height and size advantage to outscore the LFO, 23-4, the rest of the way.

Josh Laughlin had a game-high 40 points for the Wildcats. Ware dropped in a team-best 19 for LFO, followed by Gilbert with 12 and Andrew Brock with five

LFO’s teams concluded the tournament on Saturday against the host school.

However, details on the Warriors’ final game of the tournament against the host Chargers were not available as of press time.
