LaFayette earns soccer sweep over county rivals Heritage girls stay unbeaten in Region 6-AAAA action

Last Tuesday night was a successful night for the LaFayette Ramblers and Lady Ramblers as they traveled up Highway 27 and took down Walker County rival Ridgeland in a Region 6-AAAA sweep.

LaFayette girls 6, Ridgeland 3

Two first-half goals by junior Bailey Tarvin set the tone in the opener. Darcey Shields and Ashlyn Haggard picked up the assists and both players scored goals of their own later in the half.

Kailee Queen picked up a goal on a pass from freshman Lily Sosebee, while Megan Wilson capped the scoring with her second penalty kick of the season.

Head coach Whitney Brown credited her defensive line, led by Wilson, Gracie Hess, Shelby Adkins, Ashton Stalling and Caitlyn Watson, while freshman Railee Lynn got the win in goal for the Lady Ramblers.

Katie Davis scored twice for the Lady Panthers (1-5, 0-2), while Katie Carruth added a solo goal. Anastasia Burkhart assisted on Carruth’s goal and Whitney Boehm also had shots on goal.

Riley McBee had nine saves in goal, while Alyssa Young stopped

The Heritage Lady Generals finally saw their season-opening eight-match unbeaten streak come to an end last week, but the Navyand-Red continued to stay perfect in Region 6-AAAA play.

Heritage girls 4, Southeast Whitfield 1

Heritage moved to 2-0 in region play a home win over the Lady Raiders last Tuesday.

Anna Boley and Brianna Smotherman each had two goals and an assist in the victory, while Sydnee Rogers also had an assist.

North Paulding girls 3, Heritage 1

The streak was snuffed out on Thursday with a home loss to the Class 7A Lady Wolfpack.

Boley scored the goal for Heritage (7-1-1 overall) as Smotherman picked up the assist.

Southeast Whitfield boys 5, Heritage 2

In the boys’ match last Tuesday, the Generals got goals from Eli Darger and Denis Viars, albeit in a loss to the defending state champs. Jacob Shehee recorded an assist.

Both teams will play region matches in LaFayette on Tuesday, starting with the girls’ match at 5 p.m.
