Her­itage ten­nis teams eye­ing per­fect run through 6-AAAA GL girls’ track team sec­ond fin­ishes at LFO In­vi­ta­tional

The Her­itage Gen­er­als and Lady Gen­er­als both im­proved to 8-1 over­all and 5-0 in Re­gion 6-AAAA play af­ter sweep­ing LaFayette Thurs­day af­ter­noon in south Walker County.

The Gen­er­als got past the Ram­blers, 3-2, thanks to a win at No. 3 sin­gles in a sweep in dou­bles.

Austin Long de­feated Jac Cu­role, 6-2, 6-0, to get a point for Her­itage. The team of Cooper Terry and Nick Dar­ling de­feated An­drew Long and Jonah Hobbs, 6-1, 6-4, while Ethan Bone and Blake Richard­son clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Damian Brown and Tyler Massingill.

LaFayette’s wins came in sin­gles. Jar­rod Sit­ton beat Leo Peace, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0. Isa­iah South­ern also picked up a three-set win as he de­feated Davis Kilgo, 7-6 (8), 1-6, 6-3.

The Lady Gen­er­als had an eas­ier time as they posted a 5-0 vic­tory.

In sin­gles ac­tion, Caro­line Hors­ley beat S.J. Ox­ford, 6-1, 6-2. Emma Lokey beat Mi­caela Hobbs, 6-2, 6-2, and Maleah McAlis­ter han­dled Aubrey Stead­man, 6-0, 6-1.

Dou­bles also went the way of the Navyand Red. Erin Hulsey and Kate­lyn Burns beat LaTyah Bar­ber and Lau­ren Tor­bett, 6-0, 6-0, while Mor­gan Phillips and Bai­ley Chris­tol de­feated Emma Richard­son and Gra­cie Hamil­ton by the same score.

An ex­hi­bi­tion sin­gles match saw Her­itage’s Kayla Bright beat Me­gan Tor­bett, 8-1. In ex­hi­bi­tion dou­bles, the team of Grace Bea­gles and Ca­dence Bur­ton de­feated Green­lee Foun­tain and Kloe Ludy, 8-2, while Anna Grace Skin­ner and Au­tumn Viars fin­ished off the sweep for Her­itage with an 8-2 win over Macy Brewer and Mad­die Finkbone.

LaFayette edged out by Gilmer

The Ram­blers lost a 3-2 de­ci­sion in a re­gion match on Wednes­day. South­ern got a win at No. 2 sin­gles, ral­ly­ing from one-set deficit to win 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1). Long and Hobbs scored a win in dou­bles, 6-3, 6-4.

An ex­hi­bi­tion dou­bles match saw Ben Maanum and An­thony Collins claim an 8-5 vic­tory.

The Lady Ram­blers got a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8) vic­tory by Hobbs at No. 2 sin­gles, but that would be LaFayette’s only win in a 4-1 de­feat.

Lady Ram­blers meet North­west

The LaFayette girls im­proved to 5-5 over­all and 2-3 in Re­gion 6-AAAA with a 3-2 road vic­tory over North­west Whitfield at Dal­ton’s

The Gor­don Lee Lady Tro­jans track team fin­ished sec­ond only be­hind Cal­houn dur­ing Fri­day’s LFO In­vi­ta­tional in Fort Oglethorpe.

Gor­don Lee col­lected 126 points to trail only the Lady Jack­ets (151) in the fi­nal team stand­ings. Adairsville was third with 67 points, fol­lowed by Mur­ray County (51), LFO (50), Howard (35) and Cen­tral (27).

Sev­eral Lady Tro­jans had big point-scor­ing days for the Navy-andWhite. Kaylee Brown won the pole vault (10-0) and the high jump (48), while tak­ing fifth in the long jump. Gra­cie O’Neal swept the 800 (2:29) and the 1600 (5:34), while Baileigh Smith was sec­ond in the dis­cus and third in the shot put.

Ad­di­son Stur­di­vant claimed first in the 300 hur­dles (52.65) and took sec­ond in the 100 hur­dles. Kaylen Jack­son was sec­ond in the 3200, while Kate­lyn Gil­liam was third in the same event.

Madi­son May­berry was run­ner-up in the pole vault, while Is­abella Bryan was third in the high jump.

In the long jump, Jor­dan Yancey placed fourth. Asia Un­der­wood was third in the triple jump, while Tay­lor Hun­ley was fifth in the same event. Hun­ley also placed fourth in the 300 hur­dles.

Grayson Alexan­der was fifth in the 1600 and the 4x400 “A” re­lay team also placed third, while the “B” team was fifth.

For the Lady War­riors, Jer­ri­ale Jack­son won the long jump (17-2) and was sec­ond in the 100. Jer­rian Jack­son was third in the long jump and the 4x100 “A” team also raced to a win (53.02). Shay Reed was third in the 400 and the 4x400 “A” team was fourth.

Cal­houn ran away with the boys’ ti­tle, amass­ing 169.5 points, while LFO and Mur­ray County tied for sec­ond with 79 points, just three ahead of the Tro­jans (76). Adairsville (63) was fifth, fol­lowed by Cen­tral (55) and Howard (47).

The War­riors won two events. Lee Mc­Cracken was first in the dis­cus (125-5) and Kyle Purs­ley was first in the high jump (510). Pa­tryk Gil­bert was sec­ond in both the high jump and in the pole vault, while Kee­lan Cook was third in the pole vault.

Omar Ni­chols was sec­ond in the 300 hur­dles. Dar­rayn Miles was third in the long jump and Blake Thorn­burg was third in the 110 hur­dles. Austin Willing­ham took fourth in the 200 and Nick Culpep­per was fifth in the shot put.

For the Tro­jans, Jag­ger Mar­tin took first in the pole vault (10-6) and Levi Hel­ton was fifth. Jasper Wil­son was sec­ond in the 1600 and third in the 800.

Robert Napier was sec­ond in the 110 hur­dles and third in the 300 hur­dles, while Wi­ley Hem­ing was third in the high jump.

The an­nual Gor­don Lee In­vi­ta­tional is sched­uled for this Thurs­day in Chicka­mauga.
