LaFayette third after first round of NGI

The first round of the 2018 North Georgia Invitation­al golf tournament is in the books and the LaFayette Ramblers are firmly in the thick of hunt.

Playing in unseasonab­ly cool, windy weather at The Farm in Dalton last Tuesday, LaFayette finished with a team score of 309. That total is one shot behind secondplac­e Lambert (308) and two behind leader Dalton (307).

Dalton is a Class 6A school, while Lambert is in Class 7A.

Gage Smith tied for low score of the day with a 72. He shares the lead with Dalton’s Davis Smith. The duo, ironically enough, will be roommates next fall at Valdosta State.

Riley Grant and Mason Cain both carded 78’s for LaFayette, while Tyler Jackson’s 81 rounded out the team score. Also playing for the Ramblers was Carter Grant (83) and Scott Smith (95).

Gordon Lee got a 78 from Tucker Windham as he led the way for the Trojans’ total of 328. Gray Weldon was one shot behind at 79, while Jacob Carlock’s 83 and Cole Williams’ 88 filled out the remainder of the team score. Christian Boyd (96) and Gunner Williams (130) also teed it up for the Navy-andWhite.

For Heritage (359), Robert Allen Lyle had a team-best 87, followed by Cain Stover (88), Logan Self (89) and Matthew Redman (95). Also playing for the Generals was Declan Ryan (97) and Carter Bell (117).

Harrison is in fourth place after a first-round score of 311, followed by Mill Creek (322), Gordon Lee (328), Christian Heritage (344), Northwest Whitfield (356) and Heritage (359).

The second and final round was scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, at the Dalton Golf and Country Club.

Gordon Lee third at Nob North

The Trojans got a 74 from Windham and a 77 from Weldon as they finished with a team score of 322 at the Nob North Invitation­al on Saturday.

Carlock finished with a 79, while a 92 from Cole Walker rounded out the team score. Boyd (93) and Greg Mullis (103) also played for the Trojans.

Heritage (348) got an 80 from Lyle, while Self (88), Stover (88) and Redman (92) filled out the team total. Bell (95) and Ryan (98) also played for the Generals.

Walton won the tournament with a 313, followed by Cartersvil­le (318) and Gordon Lee. Christian Heritage (324) was fourth with Calhoun (338) taking fifth.

Heritage tied for seventh with Coahulla Creek in the 12-team event.

Ringgold beats Adairsvill­e

The Tigers got a low round of 40 from Gavin Noble on a frigid day at Barnsley Gardens last Tuesday. Joseph Taylor had a 43, followed by a 45 from Harrison Haupt and a 48 from Jerin Morgan. Jett Bridges also played, but his score was not reported.

Trion boys upend LaFayette JV

The LaFayette boys put up their junior varsity squad to face the Bulldogs and suffered a 179-200 defeat.

Kyle Moore had a 44 for LaFayette, followed by Jon Durham (47), Josh Bettis (49) and Riley Mitchell (60).

Recent Georgia Northweste­rn signee Noah Hankins paced Trion with a 39. The rest of the Bulldogs’ lineup included Gabe Cooper (44), Cooper Malone (46) and Walker Weaver (50).
