LaFayette third af­ter first round of NGI

The first round of the 2018 North Ge­or­gia In­vi­ta­tional golf tour­na­ment is in the books and the LaFayette Ram­blers are firmly in the thick of hunt.

Play­ing in un­sea­son­ably cool, windy weather at The Farm in Dal­ton last Tues­day, LaFayette fin­ished with a team score of 309. That to­tal is one shot be­hind sec­ond­place Lam­bert (308) and two be­hind leader Dal­ton (307).

Dal­ton is a Class 6A school, while Lam­bert is in Class 7A.

Gage Smith tied for low score of the day with a 72. He shares the lead with Dal­ton’s Davis Smith. The duo, iron­i­cally enough, will be room­mates next fall at Val­dosta State.

Ri­ley Grant and Ma­son Cain both carded 78’s for LaFayette, while Tyler Jack­son’s 81 rounded out the team score. Also play­ing for the Ram­blers was Carter Grant (83) and Scott Smith (95).

Gor­don Lee got a 78 from Tucker Wind­ham as he led the way for the Tro­jans’ to­tal of 328. Gray Wel­don was one shot be­hind at 79, while Ja­cob Car­lock’s 83 and Cole Wil­liams’ 88 filled out the re­main­der of the team score. Chris­tian Boyd (96) and Gun­ner Wil­liams (130) also teed it up for the Navy-andWhite.

For Her­itage (359), Robert Allen Lyle had a team-best 87, fol­lowed by Cain Stover (88), Lo­gan Self (89) and Matthew Red­man (95). Also play­ing for the Gen­er­als was De­clan Ryan (97) and Carter Bell (117).

Har­ri­son is in fourth place af­ter a first-round score of 311, fol­lowed by Mill Creek (322), Gor­don Lee (328), Chris­tian Her­itage (344), North­west Whitfield (356) and Her­itage (359).

The sec­ond and fi­nal round was sched­uled for Tues­day, March 27, at the Dal­ton Golf and Coun­try Club.

Gor­don Lee third at Nob North

The Tro­jans got a 74 from Wind­ham and a 77 from Wel­don as they fin­ished with a team score of 322 at the Nob North In­vi­ta­tional on Satur­day.

Car­lock fin­ished with a 79, while a 92 from Cole Walker rounded out the team score. Boyd (93) and Greg Mullis (103) also played for the Tro­jans.

Her­itage (348) got an 80 from Lyle, while Self (88), Stover (88) and Red­man (92) filled out the team to­tal. Bell (95) and Ryan (98) also played for the Gen­er­als.

Wal­ton won the tour­na­ment with a 313, fol­lowed by Cartersville (318) and Gor­don Lee. Chris­tian Her­itage (324) was fourth with Cal­houn (338) tak­ing fifth.

Her­itage tied for sev­enth with Coahulla Creek in the 12-team event.

Ring­gold beats Adairsville

The Tigers got a low round of 40 from Gavin No­ble on a frigid day at Barns­ley Gar­dens last Tues­day. Joseph Tay­lor had a 43, fol­lowed by a 45 from Har­ri­son Haupt and a 48 from Jerin Mor­gan. Jett Bridges also played, but his score was not re­ported.

Trion boys up­end LaFayette JV

The LaFayette boys put up their ju­nior var­sity squad to face the Bull­dogs and suf­fered a 179-200 de­feat.

Kyle Moore had a 44 for LaFayette, fol­lowed by Jon Durham (47), Josh Bet­tis (49) and Ri­ley Mitchell (60).

Re­cent Ge­or­gia North­west­ern signee Noah Hank­ins paced Trion with a 39. The rest of the Bull­dogs’ lineup in­cluded Gabe Cooper (44), Cooper Malone (46) and Walker Weaver (50).
