Georgia Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture donates book about farm life to local library

-

The Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) Foundation for Agriculture is promoting agricultural literacy by donating copies of the children’s book “Sleep Tight Farm” to the 409 libraries in the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS).

The GFB Foundation for Agriculture has given each county Farm Bureau in Georgia enough books for every public library in the county. Catoosa County Farm Bureau recently delivered a copy of the book to the Catoosa County Library.

“Sleep Tight Farm,” by Eugenie Doyle describes how a farm family prepares their farm for winter after the family planted seeds in spring, tended crops in the summer and harvested them in the fall. The American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture selected “Sleep Tight Farm” as its 2017 Book of the Year for its accurate and positive portrayal of agriculture. Doyle and her husband previously had a dairy farm in Vermont but now grow berries and vegetables.

Founded in 1937, Georgia Farm Bureau is the largest general farm organization in the state. Its volunteer members actively participate in local, district and state activities that promote agriculture awareness to their non-farming neighbors. GFB offers its members a wide variety of benefits, including insurance, but enrollment in any of the member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.

The GFB Foundation for Agriculture funds activities to educate students and consumers about how farmers grow their food. It also funds scholarships for students pursuing careers in agriculture.
