Middle School Volleyball: Lafayette to take momentum into conference tournament

The North Georgia Athletic Conference tournament was scheduled to start on Monday of this week and perhaps no team was hotter going into the postseason than the Lafayette Lady Ramblers.

Lafayette picked up three big wins last week, defeating Dade (25-13, 25-20), Ringgold (25-22, 11-25, 26-24) and Saddle Ridge (9-25, 25-25, 25-19). Bella Brown, Michaela Baker, Kylia Van Pelt and Sierra Cunningham helped pace the offense, while Kenedy Ludy and Gracie Headrick helped dish out assists.

Not all individual statistics had been reported as of press time.

Maclaine Donovan and Tahj Griggs paced Ringgold with five aces each in the match against Lafayette, while Griggs picked up a block. Cady Helton had two aces. Erin Harvey and River Lowery both added one ace and Genna Pease had one block.

For Saddle Ridge, Natalee Mcclain had six aces, six kills and 14 digs. Markella Johnson had seven digs to go with a dig and an ace. Jaden Tucker had six aces, seven kills, four digs and two blocks. Erin Lemons recorded eight assists, three digs and an ace, while Caitlyn Lambitz had seven digs, two aces and two kills.

The Lady Mustangs had little trouble in a win at Dade (25-11, 25-15) late last week. Mcclain had eight aces, seven digs and five kills. Lambitz finished with six kills, nine digs and one ace. Markella Johnson picked up four aces and six digs, while Lemons had two aces, one kill and three digs to go with 10 assists.

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans swept past host Rossville (25-17, 25-6) last week. Mckinleigh Steele had 16 service points on the afternoon, including 14 in a row in the second set to close out the match. Rachal Young picked up six service points in the victory.

For Rossville, Elizabeth Bagley had five kills, followed by Brylee Benson with two kills and an ace. Breeanna Ledford finished with two aces and a kill, while Ivey Stargel had one kill.

Heritage’s varsity volleyball team picked up win over Chattanoog­a Valley (25-20, 25-16) on Tuesday. Individual statistics for the Lady Generals were not available as of press time.

Paris Shelton had five aces for the Lady Eagles, followed by three from Madison Lennon, two from Koda O’dell and one from Katieann Thompson. Thompson and Cate Voyles were praised by head coach Jennifer Hobbs for their defense at the net as they combined for three blocks.

The Lady Eagles collected a three-set win over Dade (25-16, 21-25, 25-19) on Thursday. Lennon set up O’dell for six kills, Voyles for a pair of kills and Ava Rosenbloom for one. Shelton had eight aces, followed by O’dell with six, while Lennon and Alyssa Wooten also served well for CVMS.

The NGAC tournament was scheduled to conclude with the finals this Wednesday.
