Ground-and-pound Warriors grind up Colts

The LFO Warriors continued their push toward their first state playoff appearance since 2007 with a convincing 41-18 victory over Coahulla Creek Friday night at Tommy Cash Stadium.

Nathan Williams scored three touchdowns and finished with a team-high 172 yards on 23 carries. Deandre Rowe had 84 yards on six attempts, while quarterbac­k Malachi Powell collected 62 yards on five rushes. LFO gained 430 total yards, 392 on the ground.

Powell ran for scores of 20 and 19 yards in the opening quarter to give the Warriors a 13-6 lead after one period. The Colts picked up six points on a touchdown after a blocked field goal.

The two teams would exchange touchdowns in the second quarter. Brown broke free on a 35-yard score for the home team, while Coahulla Creek got a 21-yard pass from Cade Bates to Michael King to cut the Warriors’ lead to 20-12 at halftime.

Williams would establish himself in the second half. The senior bruiser would find the endzone twice in the third on runs of 4 and 26 yards and he would cap the scoring with a 16-yard run in the fourth after, answering a 5-yard TD run by King for the Colts.

LFO improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Region 6-AAA. The Red-and-white will host Sonoravill­e in another big region contest on Friday night. It will be Senior Night in Fort Oglethorpe.
