Lady Bobcats pick up home victory

The Georgia Northweste­rn Lady Bobcats delivered one of their most complete victories of the season last Monday night as they swept past Covenant College’s junior varsity team in a three-set victory at the Rossville Athletic Center.

The Lady Bobcats won the first set, 25-21, before a 25-9 victory in the second set. They finished off the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set.

It was another balanced night for GNTC. Savannah Walker had six kills, three blocks and two aces. Mia Clark had six kills, six assists, an ace, a block and a dig. Summer Fitzpatric­k had four kills, two digs, an ace and a block. Kayleigh Goff had three kills to go with seven assists, and ace, a block and a dig, while former Lady Wolverine Gracie Goode thrilled the Dade County contingent in the gym with two kills and two blocks.

Also contributi­ng for the Lady Bobcats were Jamese Miller (two kills, one block, one dig), Morgen Simmons (four aces, three digs), Kaylin Graham (one dig, one assist) and Destiny Willbanks (one kill).

On Saturday, GNTC traveled to Judson College in Marion, Ala. for a tri-match and lost twice on the day.

The Lady Bobcats lost in straight sets to Coastal Alabama Community College, 25-18, 25-18 and 25-12.

Clark had 18 assists, five kills, thee digs, an ace and a block in the loss. Walker collected nine kills, two aces, a block and a dig. Fitzpatric­k finished with six kills, an ace and a dig, while Goff picked up seven kills, nine digs and three aces.

Graham collected seven digs, four assists and two kills. Simmons added five digs and Goode finished with two kills and two blocks.

Later against Judson, the Lady Bobcats fell in four sets. They dropped the first two sets by identical 25-18 scores. Georgia Northweste­rn won the third set, 25-22, but lost a 25-23 decision in what turned out to be the final set.

Walker had nine kills, four aces and a pair of blocks. Clark collected nine kills, 16 assists, two digs and an ace. Fitzpatric­k added eight kills, 10 digs, an ace and a block, while Goff had five aces, six kills and 18 digs.

Also getting on the stat sheet was Graham (seven digs, two kills, two assists, one ace), Simmons (three aces, 13 digs) and Goode (two kills, one block).

GNTC (6-15) was scheduled to play at Hiwassee on Tuesday of this week before closing out the season at home in Rossville next Monday against Cleveland State.
