Olympian Jennie Finch to speak at Gordon Lee High School

USA Olympic softball player Jennie Finch will be speaking at Gordon Lee High School on Nov. 16. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and Finch will speak at approximat­ely 6:30.

Gordon Lee High School softball coach Dana Mull will also be honored that night. Mull has led the Lady Trojans to 16 region titles in her 16 seasons at the school, along with eight state championsh­ips. She recently collected her 500th career victory with the program.

Tickets are $10 for individual­s and $120 per team (15 spots per team). Sponsorshi­p packages are also available and food will be available for purchase that night.

Williams selected for All-star Game

Ringgold junior offensive lineman Reid Williams has been selected to play in the 2018 Georgia Rising Seniors Game at Mercer University in Macon this December. Williams is the third Ringgold player ever selected for the game and the second Ringgold offensive lineman ever selected to play in the game.

Local hoopsters named preseason All-state

The Georgia high school basketball website sandyss- peil.com has released its 20182019 GHSA preseason AllState teams and two local players have been honored.

LFO senior Macey Gregg is a second-team guard on the Class 3A girls’ team, while Lafayette senior Alex Kelehear is a second-team guard on the Class 4A boys’ team.

Youth sign-ups underway in Lafayette

The Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department is currently holding registrati­ons for basketball, wrestling and spirit teams that will cheer at basketball games.

Basketball is open for kids, ages 5-12, at a cost of $40 per player. Wrestling is open for kids, ages 5-13, at a cost of $75 per wrestler and spirit teams are open to kids, ages 5-12, at a cost of $25 per child.

CRA cheerleade­r fundraiser

The Chickamaug­a Recreation Associatio­n cheerleade­rs will hold an all-day fundraiser at Pie Slingers Pizzeria in Rock Spring on Thursday, Oct. 18. A portion of all sales, including dine-in, take-out and delivery, will go toward helping the squads with expenses.

Former Ringgold High School baseball players Matthew Crownover and Logan Baldwin are currently offering baseball lessons.

Ringgold High fishing tournament

The 4th Annual Ringgold High School Fishing Tournament to benefit the Ringgold High School baseball program will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Chester Frost Park’s Main Boat Ramp in Hixson, Tennessee ( 2277 Gold Point Circle).

The event will begin at safelight and finish up at 3 p. m. Entry fee is $ 100 per boat and 50 percent of the payout will go to the top three places and the big fish award.

There will be a five- fish limit and no dead fish will be weighed. In the event of a tie, the big fish from the tied teams will determine first place.
