Heritage teams start out 3-1 as Region 6-AAAA play starts this week
The Heritage Lady Generals opened play in the 2018 Ridgeland Thanksgiving Classic with a 63-48 victory over Coahulla Creek on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Down 25-23 at intermission, the Lady Generals would outscore the Lady Colts, 40-23, in the second half to rally for the win.
Emily Wiley had 26 points for Heritage, while Ansley Bice dropped in 20. Reagan Armour finished with 11 points. Haley Phillips had three points, Ellie Jost added two, while Gracie Murray had one.
Heritage led 30-23 at halftime last Monday and was able to hold the lead down the stretch as they defeated Murray County, 60-55, at the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Classic.
Wiley finished with 24 points for Heritage. She was 11-of-13 from the free throw line and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Bice finished with 14 points, while Armour had 11. Murray and Sydney St. John had four points apiece, while Phillips finished with three.
After three straight wins to begin the new season, the Lady Generals (3-1) finally tasted defeat on Wednesday with a 55-48 loss to Chattanooga Notre Dame on the final night of the Ridgeland Thanksgiving Classic.
Individual scoring had not been provided as of press time.
Like their female counterparts, the Generals won their first two games at the Classic, but would also lose to Notre Dame this past Wednesday to fall to 3-1 on the season.
Heritage opened the tournament with a 62-41 victory over Coahulla Creek. Down 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, the Navy-and-red outscored the Colts 21-4 in the second quarter.
Cooper Terry drained five of the Generals’ nine 3-pointers and finished the night with a game-high 17 points. Will Allen had 15 points, followed by Nolan Letzgus with 11 and Kobe Mcallister with 10.
On Monday, Heritage scored 23 first-quarter points and needed all of them as they survived a 62-57 tussle with Murray County.
Mcallister had a team-high 17 points for the Generals. Terry drained three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, while Caden Snyder had nine points on a trio of treys. Allen and Letzgus each finished with seven points. Walker Spruiell had five, while Nick Hanson and Cade Kiniry added two each.
Then on Wednesday, Heritage fell to the Irish, 55-39. Individual statistics were unavailable as of press time.
Heritage was slated to open Region 6-AAAA play on Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Pickens before welcoming Lafayette to Boynton on Friday night. On Saturday, Heritage will head to Chickamauga for non-region games against Gordon Lee.
