Ringgold girls enjoy strong 6-AAA start

The first week of the Region 6-AAA schedule is in the books and it couldn’t have gone much better for the Ringgold Lady Tigers as they won back-toback road games at Adairsvill­e and at state-ranked Sonoravill­e.

Ringgold got a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double from Rachel Akers on Tuesday as they pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 59-51 at Adairsvill­e. The Lady Tigers led 30-20 at halftime, but saw the home team rally to tie the score at 40 apiece going into the final quarter. However, Ringgold would put up 19 points over the final eight minutes to pull away for the win.

Freshman Rachel Lopez had 12 points, including a 6-of-8 perfor- mance at the free throw line. She also had four steals and dished out four assists. Riley Nayadley had 10 points and eight boards, while Shelby Cole had six points, five assists and five steals.

Four points each from Sydney Pittman, Addi Broome and Faith Bryson, along with two points from Baileigh Pitts, rounded out the scoring for Ringgold.

Sonoravill­e, the No. 9-ranked team in Class AAA according to Score Atlanta, welcomed the Lady Tigers to town on Friday. However, Ringgold built a 30-19 advantage at halftime and held off the home team to score an impressive 58-54 victory as they moved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in 6-AAA.
