Prep Wrestling Report: Ridgeland gets Senior Night sweep

The Ridgeland Mat Panthers celebrated Senior Night and Alumni Night on Friday by facing Dade County and Northwest Whitfield in a tri-match in front of a large crowd in Panther Gymnasium.

Ridgeland opened with a 54-22 win over the Wolverines behind pins from Garrett Romans (120 pounds), Chris Prescott (126), Jordan Hughley (145), Jacob Mariakis (160), Dylan Swanson (170), Dylan Fowler (182), Kyle Brown (195) and Tommy Lamb (220). Mehki Ross (132) scored an overtime victory, while Aiden Raymer (138) won his match by decision.

In the night’s final match, the Panthers scored a historic 36-31 victory over the Bruins, marking the first time a Ridgeland team has ever beaten Northwest in a regular-season dual match,

The Panthers got pins from Prescott (126), Mariakis (160) and Lamb (220). Ross (132), Hughley (145) and Swanson (170) scored major decisions, while Romans (120) won via an injury default.

Lafayette repeats at Cedartown

Lafayette wins at Cedartown The Ramblers improved to 18-2 in dual matches this season as they went 5-0 and won the Cedartown Duals on Saturday.

Lafayette routed Mcintosh, 84-0, and slipped past Cartersvil­le, 39-34. They ended the day with victories over Rockmart (51-24), Cedartown (69-6) and Landmark Christian (63-10). It was the Ramblers’ second straight Cedartown title.

Heritage goes 2-1 at Dade County

The Generals added to their winning record in dual matches this season after winning twice at a quadmeet in Trenton on Thursday.

Heritage avenged a loss to Dade County from the previous Saturday and also picked up a win over Gordon Central, but dropped a narrow decision to Trion. Match scores were not provided as of press time.

Individual­ly, Seth Ingle (170 pounds) was 3-0 with three pins, while Ryan Craft (120), Ian Burgett (132) and Alex Eacret (195) were all 3-0 with two pins. Drake Parker (182) was 3-0 with one pin.

Matthew Tetreault (220) went 2-1 with both victories coming by pin. Garrett Pennington (145) was 2-1 with one pin, while Enrique Rodriguez (106), Nathan Boatman (126), Garett Stephens (152) and Bryson Green (138) each had one pin. Boatman and Stephens won by pin, while Green won by technical fall.

Head coach Mike Craft said Kam- eron Burnette (113), Christian Merrill (160) and Randy Brooks (285) wrestled tough in defeat.

The Generals went 4-1 and placed second at the Westminste­r Duals on Saturday.

Heritage defeated St. Pius X (6318), Riverwood (78-6), Perry (60-23) and Westminste­r (51-25), while its only loss came at the hands of Locust Grove (51-24).

Burgett (132) and Stephens (152) both won all five of their matches, four coming by pin, while Craft (120) was 5-0 with three pins. Boatman (126) and Ingle (170) were both 4-1 with four pins. Parker (182) and Brooks (285) were both 4-1 with a pair of pins.

Eacret (195) and Ethan Covington (160) were both 3-2 with two pins. Rodriguez (106) was 3-2 with one pin, while Burnette (113) also went 3-2. Green (138) and Pennington (145) both had two wins with one pin, while Tetreault (220) saw his one win come via pin.

Heritage is now 15-9 in dual matches on the season.

Ringgold, Gordon Lee in top five at Ooltewah

The Tigers and the Trojans were the two highest-finishing teams from the Peach State at the 12-team Ooltewah Invitation­al on Saturday.

Brentwood won the team title with 218.5 points, while Walker Valley (140.5) was a distant second. Ringgold (114) took third, followed by Gordon Lee (102.5) and Warren County (78) to round out the top five.

Tanner Stone (126) and Logan Skeen (132) won individual titles for the Tigers. Malachi Parker was runner-up at 182, while Holden Moss (138) and Luke Parks (285) both finished third. Seth Parker (152) placed fourth.

Hunter Burnette (106), Bryce James (113) and Avery Geer (145) all came home with individual title for the Trojans. Logan Butler (138) finished second. Owen Frost (170) was third and Nathaniel Hunley (132) took fourth.

Ringgold also wrestled at North Murray this past Thursday, defeating Southeast (40-36) and North Murray (42-18), but losing to Murray County (39-36). Individual results were not provided.
