University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Isaiah Mack continues to bring in postseason recognition as he was named to the Walter Camp Foundation All-american team last week. The 27-man group consists of only one team on offense and defense, making this one of the most prestigious honors for FCS players.

The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP. In all, players from 10 different conferences and 23 institutions are represented on the 2018 Walter Camp FCS All-america team.

Walter Camp, “The Father of American football,” first selected an All-america team in 1889. Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven-based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-america team.

A native of Tunnel Hill, Ga. and a graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School, Mack was a finalist for the 2018 Buck Buchanan Award after posting 8.5 sacks, 11.5 tacklesfor-loss and two forced fumbles on the year. He has already garnered Associated Press First Team All-american Honors.

He was named the Socon Defensive Player of the Week by Southernpigskin.com after leading the Mocs with nine tackles in a 34-27 win over VMI on Oct. 27. He posted three of the UTC’S seven sacks on the day and finished with a career-best four tackles-for-loss. The three sacks were also a career mark and just a half-sack shy of the school record.

His 8.5 sacks on the year are second in the Southern Conference and No. 19 in the FCS. He has 21 career sacks, which is fourth-place all-time at UTC behind Davis Tull (37 - 2011-2014), Keionta Davis (31 - 2013-2016) and Joshua Williams (23.5 - 2009-2012). His 41 career tackles-for-loss are third all-time at UTC, trailing Tull (60) and Davis (43).

Mack is the third in school history to make the Walter Camp team. Corey Levin was a 2015 selection while Davis Tull made the squad in 2012 and 2013.
