Middle School Basketball: Heritage, Lafayette boys split Ringgold Winter Classic games

The Heritage Generals and Lafayette Ramblers both went 1-1 last weekend at the Winter Classic, hosted by Ringgold Middle School.

On Friday, the Generals trailed 29-23 at halftime, but could not complete the comeback as they fell to Cleveland (Tenn.), 55-36.

Kaden Swope had a team-high 16 points to go with four assists, four rebounds and three steals. Paxton Mccrary dropped in six points and grabbed four rebounds. Bryce Travillian had five points, six boards, two blocks and a steal. J.D. Black also had five points to go with three rebounds and three steals, while Payton Newman added four points, three steals and two boards.

Then on Saturday, Heritage rebounded with a 63-34 victory over Dalton to improve to 9-3 on the year.

The Generals led 15-10 after the first period, but dominated the next two periods by outscoring the Cougars, 36-17.

Black had a team-high 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while also collecting a team-high five steals. Swope had 11 points, five assists, five boards and a pair of steals, while Travillian picked up 10 points, four boards, three steals and one assist.

Mccrary chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists. Newman scored seven points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out one assist, while J.J. Hunt had five points, three steals, two assists and one rebounds.

Also contributi­ng in the victory was J.C. Armour (three points, one assist, one rebound, one steal), Kaleb Biddle (three points, two assists, one rebound, one steal), Jedd Johnson (two points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal) and Caiden Bauldwin (two steals).

Meanwhile, the Ramblers opened with a 46-37 win over Dalton.

Zach Barrett had a team-high 18 points, followed by Dawson Pendergras­s with 15 and Grant Langford with eight. Evan Williams added three points and Sam Hall chipped in with two.

Then in their final game, the Orangeand-black fell to Ocoee (Tenn.), 52-38. Barrett had 19 points. Pendergras­s added 10 and Langford finished with nine.

No other game informatio­n from the tournament was provided as of press time.
