University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach Rusty Wright announced the first members of his new staff last week. The Mocs are adding four coaches to the program with this initial announcement.

Leading the way is former Moc and threetime Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year Jacob Huesman (2012-2015). A recordsetting quarterback at UTC, he returns to Chattanooga as the tight ends coach. Also joining the program are offensive coordinator Joe Pizzo, defensive line coach Kenny Baker and special teams and defensive assistant coach Mike Yeager.

Pizzo has spent the last 22 seasons as an NCAA offensive coordinator, serving most recently at Mercer. Baker also comes to Chattanooga after five years with the Bears. Yeager joins the Mocs following a year as the defensive coordinator at Tiffin (Ohio) University. Prior to that, he was the head coach at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisc.

“We are excited to get these guys in here and get to work,” stated Wright. “I have known and worked with each of them and that familiarity will help us quickly settle in as a staff. We are eager to get the semester started so we can get the current team back on campus and prepare for a very important recruiting period.”

After taking a shot at playing professionally, including a stint on the New York Giants practice squad, Huesman joined the Georgia State staff as a graduate assistant. There he worked with the offensive line and tight ends.

Pizzo was the offensive coordinator at North Greenville from (20132017) before taking over at Mercer last season. He led Crusaders to an average of 408.2 total yards of offense over five seasons, including a nine-win season in 2016. He also served as OC at North Carolina A&T (2011-12) and Gardner-webb (1997-10). He graduated from Mars Hill in 1987 with school records for touchdown passes in a single season (16) & total offense in a single season (2,080 yards).

Prior to his time at Mercer, Baker was the co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Berry College in 2013. He was a four-year letter winner at Gardner- Webb (2005-08).
