Ridgeland gets first region victory

- By Scott Herpst

The Ridgeland Lady Panthers and the North Murray Lady Mountaineers both had nine hits apiece last Tuesday night. However, the visitors from Chatsworth were able to parlay those hits into six more runs than the home team as Ridgeland suffered a 7-1 setback in a non-region game.

North Murray led 2-1 after one inning of play. They tacked on a solo run in the top of the second before giving themselves some breathing room with a four-run third inning.

Hailey Carroll started in the circle for Ridgeland and took the loss. She allowed seven earned runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout in 2.2 innings of work. Bryanna Goldsmith pitched well in relief. Though she walked six batters, she gave up just two hits and struck out five in 4.1 innings.

Cordasia Watkins went 2-for-4 for the Lady Panthers, while Danielle Cross added a double.

Ridgeland 9, Southeast 1

Batting in the bottom of the fourth inning and tied 1-1 with Southeast Whitfield, the Ridgeland Lady Panthers surged in front with three runs in the inning before adding five more in the bottom of the fifth to run-rule the Lady Raiders, 9-1, in a Region 6-AAAA game in Rossville.

Kylie Collins was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIS. Three of the runs she drove in came on a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning that punctuated the victory.

Vanessa Hart was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIS, while Brittany Holder had a hit and drove in two. Goldsmith had a double as one of her two hits and she also picked up the win in the circle. The sophomore threw five innings, allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out two batters and did not allow a walk.

Northwest 11, Ridgeland 1

The Lady Bruins scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and seven in the second to pick up a win over Ridgeland Thursday night in Tunnel Hill.

The Lady Panthers (3-17, 1-6) picked up their only run of the night in the top of the first inning. An error, a sacrifice bunt, a walk and a fielder’s choice would precede Goldsmith’s two-out, Rbi-single that scored Watkins.

Goldsmith had two hits on the evening, while Watkins, Hart, Collins, Marianne Beliveau and Anna Jenkins all had one hit. Goldsmith took the loss in the circle. She gave up six earned runs on 11 hits and three walks in four innings of work. She finished with one strikeout.
