Chattanoog­a Valley breaks out the brooms against Dade

It was a post-labor Day sweep for the Chattanoog­a Valley varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams last Tuesday as they both won matches against Dade County in Trenton.

The JV team picked up the three-set victory (scores were unavailabl­e) after dropping the opening set. Standouts included Deborah Gutierrez, Abby Knight, Izzy Boyko and Emma Bowman, according to Coach Jennifer Hobbs, while Cerrish Letson delivered five unreturnab­le serves.

The CVMS varsity team needed just two sets for a 2519, 25-23 win. Emily Ensley and Sara Friar had eight consecutiv­e unreturnab­le serves and three aces. Cami Towns, Allie Young and Caitlyn Smolik were touted as defensive stars of the night with three digs and attacks at the net.

Saddle Ridge sweeps CVMS

The varsity Lady Mustangs earned a 25-15, 25-19 over the Lady Eagles in a league match in Rock Spring on Thursday.

Vianca Segarra had a teamhigh six aces for Saddle Ridge while also collecting four digs, three assists and three kills. Cecelia Davenport had five kills to go with one block and one dig. Fanny Barber had three aces, five digs and two kills. Erin Lemons had 11 assists, five digs, three aces and a kill. Mercedes Mitchell finished with nine assists, a dig and a kill, while Mallony Mitchell served up four aces.

Also contributi­ng in the win was Maggie Hambrick (three digs, two kills), Mary Alice Ertz (one ace, one dig), Aubrey Nowlin (two digs, one ace, one kill), Makenna Meloche (one dig, one kill) and Sierra Nowlin (one dig, one kill).

Besty Hixson was the top server for the Lady Eagles and Young picked up two aces and four digs. At the net, Towns and Alexis Wheeler blocked three shots apiece.

The JV completed the sweep with a 26-24, 25-19 victory behind six aces, three kills and two digs from Lydia Haggard and three aces, three assists and five digs from Lanie Hamilton. Emma Hixson picked up five kills, four digs and an ace. Olivia White had four kills and an ace, while Alesia Leaks had three kills and a pair of digs.

Mary Kate Thurman (four aces, one assist, one dig), Maryn Johns (two aces, one dig), Libby Kate Parnell (one ace), Jessica Morris (one assist) and Mandy Moyer (one kill) also helped the Lady Mustangs to the win.

For CVMS, Kylee Durham and Carrieanne Hill had eight unreturnab­le serves, while Hill and Durham also had five digs and two aces.

Ringgold outlasts Gordon Lee

The Lady Tigers got a monster night from Cady Helton in a 25-22, 18-25, 25-22 victory over Gordon Lee on Thursday night in Catoosa County.

Helton served up 15 aces and added seven kills, seven digs and a block in the win. Brooke Baldwin and Kaitlin Dinkins each had six aces. Baldwin also added two kills and a dig, while Dinkins picked up four kills and one dig.

Kaylee Carpenter finished with three aces and pair of kills. Emmie Chilton had an ace and four assists, while Tiffany Cavin (three aces), Maddox Hollingswo­rth (four assists) and Sophia Patterson (seven assists) also added to the cause.

Ringgold also took a threesette­r in the JV match, 25-14, 19-25 and 15-10. Kaylie Hampton had a team-high six aces and two assists. Noel Fries had two aces and assisted on five points. Emma Varnell
