Area wrestlers hit the mats

The Lafayette Ramblers picked up a 58-24 victory over Gordon Lee in a dual meet Thursday afternoon in Lafayette.

Avery Davis, Tristen Ash, Braxton Beavers, Trevor Mestrez, Logan Kendrick and Noah Johnson all recorded pins for the Ramblers. Caden Ash, Dylan Brown and Brayden Jenkins all won by decision, while Bryar Hartline and Gavin Reed claimed victories via forfeit.

Gordon Lee’s points all came from pins as Noah Brown, Peyton Mullins, Brock Crutchfiel­d and Zach Walston collected pinfalls for the Trojans.

Saddle Ridge wins Walker Cup

The Mustangs took down its four other Walker County rivals to defend their Walker County Cup championsh­ip on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Rock Spring.

Saddle Ridge faced off with Chattanoog­a Valley first and picked up a 72-15 victory. They followed up with a 60-24 win over Rossville and defeated Gordon Lee, 72-12, before finishing up with a 54-36 win over Lafayette.

Levi Ledford was 4-0 with four pins on the day. Dalton Griffin was 4-0 with three pins and one decision, while Jacob Bond was 4-0 with two pins, a technical fall and a forfeit.

George Sholtz, Parker Greco, Bentley Cannington, Drew Dean, Ethan Gilbert, Zachary Ellis and Hayden Camp all collected three pins. Holden Ballew had two pins and a forfeit. Jacob Hamilton recorded two pins and one decision and

Nate Hines added two pins. Austin Cook had a pin and a forfeit win. Chandler Ballew had one pin and Kaden Trejo picked up a forfeit win for the Saddle Ridge varsity.

Heritage holds off Saddle Ridge

A huge crowd filled the gymnasium at Saddle Ridge Middle School on Friday afternoon as the Mat Mustangs took on visiting Heritage in a much-anticipate­d early-season dual match.

In the end, however, it was the Generals posting a narrow 44-40 victory.
