The city of Lafayette garbage pickup on Thanksgivi­ng will take place one day prior to the holiday. The Public Works Department will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29, for the Thanksgivi­ng holiday. The regular Thursday garbage route pickup will commence on Wednesday, Nov. 27 — one day before Thanksgivi­ng. Residents on the Thursday route should have their garbage cans out on Nov. 27 to be added to the regular Wednesday route for the week celebratin­g Thanksgivi­ng.

Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgivi­ng)

Second Baptist Church will host a free communityw­ide Thanksgivi­ng meal on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The church is at 500 W. Main St., Lafayette. Free deliveries will be made within city limits. To receive a dinner, you must call the church office before noon on Thursday, Nov. 21. Call 706-638-2732.

Friday, Nov. 29

The Friends of the Rossville Public Library group will hold its annual Black Friday Auction from Nov. 29 at 8 a.m. through Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. There will be unique gift baskets, gift cards, tools, jewelry, as well as other items, to bid on. All proceeds will benefit the Rossville Public Library.

Saturday, Nov. 30

Boynton United Methodist Church and Boynton Baptist Church will host Christmas at the Farm on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 5:30 p.m. at Willow Tree Farms, 607 Post Oak Road, in Ringgold. The event includes Santa, children’s activities, live music, a message, a petting zoo, a fire pit, hot beverages and snacks. Admission is free; however, canned food donations for Christ Chapel

Sunday, Dec. 1

During December, the Walker County School’s Smith Planetariu­m will present the “Season of Light” program, which explores the history, fascinatio­ns and customs people have had with light during the onset of winter and with the December holiday season. The program is visually rich, culturally inclusive and musically satisfying. The planetariu­m is at 409 Pond Springs Road south of Chickamaug­a. Admission is $5 for adults and $4 for school age children (no credit cards). The 2019 schedule is Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 2:30 p.m. and Dec. 7, 14, and 21 at 7:30 p.m.
