The 2022 Catoosa-walker County Baseball Dream Team
It was a senior season to remember for LFO’S do-it-all standout Will Carroll.
The recent Chattanooga State signee went 4 for 4 at the plate in the season opener against Southeast Whitfield and continued a torrid pace at the dish all season long.
This year’s Catoosa County Player of the Year had several memorable games this past season while starring for the Warriors at first base, third base, right and left field, catcher and pitcher.
He was 3 for 4 with a double and two homers in a 6-5, eight-inning victory at Adairsville and went 3 for 5 in a 13-3 win over Murray County. That night saw him drive in three runs and finish a double away from hitting for the cycle.
A first team All-region pick in 6-AAA, Carroll hit .444 in his final season for the Warriors with eight doubles, two triples and seven homeruns to go with 22 RBI’S, 31 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. He had a .602 on-base percentage and an impressive .880 slugging percentage.
The Heritage Generals made a somewhat surprising run all the way to the Class AAAA Elite Eight this past season and junior pitcher Zach Barrett was a big reason why.
Barrett became the ace of the Generals’ staff and earned first team AllRegion honors in 7-AAAA after recording eight victories and striking out 73 batters in 72.2 innings. He issued just 27 walks and finished with a 0.86 ERA. He also chipped in with 21 RBI’S at the plate.
This year’s Catoosa County Pitcher of Year simply got better as the season went on.
In his final seven starts, he won six times and had one no decision — that coming after seven shutout innings against Northwest Whitfield. He gave up only three runs in his final seven starts, while only two were earned. He surrendered just 19 hits over those 43 innings with 37 strikeouts against 14 walks.
He also went 3-0 in the state playoffs, allowing just two runs — one earned. In 17 innings on the mound in the state tournament, Barrett struck out 20 batters and dealt just six walks.
