Brent Bowman became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the LFO boys’ basketball program during the Warriors’ 79-53 home win over Gordon Lee this past Friday night.

The senior guard drained five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 37 points to put him at 1,549 for his stellar career. That total pushed him past former great Bobby Davis and broke a record that had stood for nearly 30 years.

“It means the world, but at the end of the day, it’s just a number in the books,” Bowman explained. “This journey has been amazing and I would never change my decision to move to LFO coming into high school. It was extremely special to me to be able to achieve this at home with my family, friends, teachers, coaches, and more watching and cheering us on.

“After watching (the replay) back, I realized it was the exact same shot I hit to score my 1,000th point. I found that quite cool as well. With that being said, we have more games to play and, above that, a region championship to go win. The job’s not finished.”

Jayden Dover added 14 points in the win, while Jared Mitchell and Amari Burnett each scored nine as LFO moved to 8-1 in Region 6-AAA. Champion Bowman and Zyan Eastman scored three apiece with Darian Keefe and Bryce Brock both chipping in with two.

Hunter Holmes had 20 points for the Trojans (2-7 in 6-AAA), followed by Will Mccutcheon with 11 and Jordan Underwood with seven. Cooper Jackson and Sam Sartin each scored four and Luke Sikes added three, while two apiece from Andrew Amor and Aiden Goodwin rounded out the total.

LFO GIRLS 68, GORDON LEE 26

In the opener, the Lady Warriors got 15 points each from Angel Simmons and Christen Collins and used a 14-point spark from sophomore Christal Collins to boost their record to 9-0 in region play.

With senior Christina Collins out of the lineup as a precaution, Christal Collins scored 10 of her 14 points in a 27-point second quarter that gave the Lady Warriors a 37-13 cushion at halftime after they went into the second period up by just two at 10-8.

The rest of the points included six each from Zoey Gray-martin and Christina Gass, three from Trinity Heinrich and Mercedes Thompson, and two apiece from Hope Alexander, Heidi Johnson and Ziara Thompson.

Gordon Lee (0-9) got seven points each from Riley

Shirley and Emma Phillips to go with four from Abby Logan. Dallas Wagoner had three. Sophia Mcdonald and Charlsie Mcelhaney both added two and Kaitlyn Wagoner chipped in with one.

All four teams hit the courts again on Saturday.

LFO’S girls suffered their first loss of the season (18-1) against 21-0 Tennessee Class AAA powerhouse Bradley Central, 74-43, while the Warriors dropped to 11-9 with a 65-39 loss to the Bears.

Gordon Lee’s girls slipped to 3-14 with a 53-38 home loss to Trion, while the Trojans are now 9-11 overall following a 61-50 loss to the Bulldogs.
