Oakwood teams end regular season

The Oakwood Christian Eagles and Lady Eagles will take part in the GAPPS Div. I-AA Region 1 tournament at Unity Christian School in Rome this week and prepped for the event with their final two regular season games late last week.

OAKWOOD GIRLS 53, PRAISE ACADEMY 16

On Thursday, in Powder Springs, the Lady Eagles led 20-2 after the first quarter and were up 30-4 at halftime as they rolled to the region victory behind 24 steals as a team.

Mana Gilchrist had 14 points and four steals. Trinity Hall had 12 points and seven steals, while Janel Buckels also added 12 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Cheyenne Simpson had eight points and recorded four steals. Chloe Brodie had four points and four steals. Reagan Pickard scored three points and pulled down five boards, while Caroline Tindell helped out with four rebounds and a pair of steals.

PRAISE ACADEMY BOYS 64, OAKWOOD 44

The Eagles were not as fortunate in the nightcap. Garrett Dempsey had a teamhigh 19 points for OCA, followed by Tomo Gilchrist with 12 and Ryan Phillips with five. Ryan Davis and Joseph Dawson each finished with three, while John McDonough added two.

OAKWOOD GIRLS 50, SHILOH HILLS 14

The Lady Eagles closed out the regular season on a high note Friday night as they made quick work of a road game in Kennesaw.

OCA, who finished 13-9 overall in the regular season and 6-1 in region play, took an eight-point lead into the second quarter before outscoring their hosts 21-2 to take a commanding 31-4 lead into halftime.

Gilchrist had 15 points, seven steals and five rebounds. Hall had a dozen points, four rebounds and three steals. Simpson finished with six points and four boards, while Pickard had six points, three rebounds and three steals.

Buckels added five points and four rebounds. Tindell had three points and a pair of rebounds, while Brodie scored two points and dished out one assist.

Oakwood’s girls, the No. 2 seed for the tournament, were set to open against Praise Academy on Tuesday. The girls’ championsh­ip game is scheduled for Thursday. Unity Christian School, who split with Oakwood in the regular season, is the No. 1 seed and the tournament host.

SHILOH HILLS BOYS 62, OAKWOOD 18

The Eagles ended their regular season at 3-20 overall and 0-8 in Region 1. No further informatio­n on the game was available as of press time.

They were set to open the region tournament on Monday of this week at UCS in Rome as the No. 6 seed against Praise Academy.

The boys’ title game is also set for Thursday night. Excel Christian of Cartersvil­le is the No. 1 seed.
