MONDAY, MARCH 27 Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) is offering a

seven-week evening certified nursing assistant (CNA) course. Classes will be held Monday to Thursday from 5 to 9:15 p.m., beginning Monday, March 27, and ending on Monday, May 15. The program includes lectures, videos, testing and skills developmen­t. Hamilton’s 120-hour program also includes basic life support (BLS). Classes are held at the Hamilton University Base, 1275 Elkwood Drive in Dalton. Students must be at least 16 years old to enroll. The program cost is $900, but Hamilton is offering tuition reimbursem­ent and scholarshi­ps to qualified individual­s. The certificat­ion exam cost is $112 (not included in program cost). TUESDAY, MARCH 28 CHI Memorial Foundation will present

“Advancemen­ts in Health Care,” a free education event for the residents of North Georgia. The event will be held at the Walker County Civic Center on Tuesday, March 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dr. Krish Bhadra, interventi­onal pulmonolog­ist, and Dr. Betsy Washburn, breast surgical oncologist, will talk about the cancer care available through CHI Memorial’s Rees Skillern Cancer Institute. Registered Nurse Kim Shank, director of clinical services, will explain the many support services available free of charge through CHI Memorial’s Center for Cancer Support, including nurse navigators, dietitians, social workers, chaplains, support groups, and educationa­l materials. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12 Join Walker County Extension as it hosts a fruit gardening workshop

on Wednesday, April 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walker County Ag Center in Rock Spring. The classroom sessions include topics such as: selection, establishm­ent and management of apples, peaches, plums, blueberrie­s, figs and muscadines and pest management and pesticide safety. The workshop will also include a hands-on apple grafting session with training for bench grafting dwarf apple trees. All materials will be provided including rootstock and grafting knife. Registrati­on is $10 and due to Walker County Extension by Wednesday, April 5. Refreshmen­ts will be provided. The class is limited to the first 20 participan­ts. “My Voice Matters: A Walk to End Sexual Violence” will be held Thursday, April 27, at 5 p.m. at GilbertSte­phenson Park (large pavilion behind pool) on Van Cleve Street in Fort Oglethorpe in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Lookout Mountain CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) needs volunteers to advocate for the best interest of the abused and neglected children of Catoosa, Dade, Walker and Chattooga counties who are in foster care.
