JACKSON, Marilyn

-

Marilyn Jackson, age 87, of Lafayette passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 peacefully while surrounded by her family.

Marilyn was born to the late Ellsworth and Alice Mobley on September 13, 1935 in Rome, Georgia. After graduating from Lafayette High School in 1953, she attended West Georgia College graduating in 1955 with an Associate Degree in Business. Marilyn then returned to Summerville where she would meet the love of her life, Rex Jackson of Summerville. After dating for 6 months, they would wed in 1956. In 1958, they became proud parents to their son, Lamar, and in 1963, to their daughter, Lisa. In 1967, they moved to Lafayette where they set their roots.

In 1976 - 1978, Marilyn and Rex began a career in real estate, in which they built into a successful company, Jackson Realty. This company is still successful in 2023 and run by the 3rd generation. Marilyn was an active Associate Broker in their family business up until her retirement in 2022 at the age of 87. She loved working with people and it was never a job to her, but a life she enjoyed dearly.

During her 44 years as a realtor, she became a community leader and supporter through local organizations, volunteering her love, time and energy to all she touched or worked with.

Marilyn attended the Lafayette First Baptist Church from 1967 until her sickness in January 2023.

And then, she would attend online while at the hospital. She volunteered on many committees, taught Girls in Action, and loved her Sunday School class all throughout these years.

Marilyn felt it very important to check on the elderly and homebound even if they were younger than her. When she became too weak to drive or walk to visit, she began calling them regularly to check on them. This was one of her favorite things to do.

Marilyn had a strong love for children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, so much so she would rarely miss their sporting activities and would travel anywhere to watch them play.

Marilyn was a “people person” and always loved everyone.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Rex Jackson; daughter, Lisa (Oliver) Heyer; son, Lamar Jackson (Jose); grandchildren, Tanner (Devan) Heyer and Nathan Heyer; great grandchildren, Max, George and Arch Heyer; and several nieces and nephews.
