THURSDAY, FEB. 1 Battlefiel­d Parkway Church of the Nazarene, 3220 Battlefiel­d Parkway (next to Walmart) in Fort Oglethorpe, will host Grief Share

each Thursday at 6 p.m. beginning Thursday, Feb. 1. Grief Share is a 13-week support group designed to help people who have lost a loved one. The program includes videos, group discussion­s, and workbooks to be completed at home. The videos include helpful informatio­n from experts who have themselves suffered a personal loss. Hamilton Health Care System continues to provide Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic (EMTP) training at Hamilton University Base, 1275 Elkwood Drive in Dalton. Classes begin Feb. 1 for EMT training, Feb. 2 for AEMT training and Feb. 7 for EMTP training. Courses are shift-friendly. Participan­ts must progress through the certificat­ions as follows: EMT, AEMT and then EMTP. All students are required to pass the course and the National Registry practical and written exam to become certified. Enrollment is now open for these programs. SUNDAY, FEB. 4 The public is invited to come and to bring friends to a

free concert at Lafayette Presbyteri­an Church, 107 N. Main St., by Chorusange­lorum of Chattanoog­a, an a cappella group of young profession­als, on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m., with a reception to follow. This event will initiate the community event series hosted by Lafayette Presbyteri­an for 2024, which will offer a variety of events free to the community to increase opportunit­ies for the people of the area to gather and fellowship.

The Northwest Georgia Beekeepers Associatio­n will host a beginner’s beekeeping short course on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walker County Ag. Center, 10052 U.S. Highway 27,

THURSDAY, FEB. 29 The Walker County Extension Office will hold egg candling classes

on Thursday, Feb. 29, in Dalton at the Mack Gaston Community Center. The Georgia Department of Agricultur­e will teach the class, which is required to obtain an egg candling certificat­e. Anyone with a backyard flock who plans to sell eggs to individual­s or at a farmer's market is required to have this certificat­e. FRIDAY, MARCH 15 The deadline to apply for Horatio Alger undergradu­ate scholarshi­ps

is noon (Eastern Time) on Friday, March 15. A number of scholarshi­ps are reserved for Catoosa and Walker County students. Horatio Alger Associatio­n of Distinguis­hed Americans Inc. (www. horatioalg­er.org) provides need-based scholarshi­ps to deserving high school seniors across America.

GENERAL The Friends of the Gordon-lee Mansion will open the mansion,

which is located in downtown Chickamaug­a, for tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Saturday from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Other times by arrangemen­t.
