Mary-Chase Thompson Godwin and James Vaughn Gillis, Jr. were united in marriage on September 22, 2018 at half after five o’clock at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. A reception followed the outdoor ceremony officiated by the Rev. Dr. Al Cadenhead. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Winston Godwin, Jr. of Weddington, NC. She is the granddaughter of Ray Thompson of Spartanburg, SC, the late Evelene Wilson Thompson, and the late Dr. and Mrs. Winston Godwin, formerly of Cheraw, SC. Mary-Chase is a graduate of Myers Park High School and the University of South Carolina. She received an MS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from East Carolina University. She is employed as a speech-language pathologist at Novant Health PresbyterianMedical Center in Charlotte. The groom is the son of Beth Andrews of Pawley’s Island, SC and the late James Vaughn Gillis, formerly of Lexington, SC. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas William Andrews III, formerly of Georgetown, SC, the late Betty Gaines Gillis Shorter and the late Joseph Gillis, Jr., both formerly of Columbia, SC. Vaughn graduated from TL Hanna High School and the University of South Carolina. He is employed by Coca-Cola Consolidated. Matron of honor was Amy Bundrick, sister of the bride, of Charlotte. Bridesmaids were Ashley Brown of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Anna Kendrick of Greenwood, SC, Courtney Spaulding of Charlotte, and Kimberly Guy of Hendersonville, TN, all sisters of the bride; Kaitlyn Arnold and Stephanie Burke of Raleigh; Allison Brown, Carter Glenn, and Morgan Parker of Charlotte; Hannah Dixon of Denver, CO; Anna Jensen of Tampa, FL; and Holly Nesselroad of Atlanta, GA. Joseph Palmer Gillis, brother of the groom, of Greenville, SC, served as best man. Groomsmen were Boyd Blanchard, Rozier Blanchard, and Andrew Hook of Columbia, SC; Andrew Austin of Anderson, SC; Jonathon Clayton of Greenville, SC; J.C. Flower girls were Eleanor and Mary-Blake Kendrick, Effie Brown, and Raleigh Guy, all nieces of the bride; and Stella Piper Dawson, cousin of the groom. Bo Bundrick and Wilson Guy, nephews of the bride, were ring bearers. Scripture readers were Wheeler Brown and Winston Kendrick, niece and nephew of the bride. Greeters were Sarah Bonner of Indian Land, SC and Catherine Odom of Charlotte. The bridal luncheon was hosted by India Keith of Charlotte at the Duke Mansion. The rehearsal dinner was held at the Suffolk Punch and given by the groom’s mother and his aunt and uncle, Mr. andMrs. Clary Dawson of Pawley’s Island, SC. The newlyweds honeymooned at the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, SC. They now reside in Charlotte.
