The Phialdel­phia Ea­gles’ sea­son-long Dar­ren Spro­les in­jury de­ba­cle deep­ened with a re­port from ESPN’s Adam Schefter stat­ing that Spro­les had ag­gra­vated his ham­string in­jury in his re­turn to prac­tice Wed­nes­day, sidelin­ing the run­ning back for Sun­day night’s visit from the Dal­las Cowboys.

Ea­gles coach Doug Ped­er­son said just be­fore prac­tice Wed­nes­day that he ex­pected Spro­les to play for the first time since the sea­son opener. Spro­les, 35, suf­fered his ham­string in­jury in prac­tice the next week and hasn’t played since. quar­ter­back has not been ruled out al­to­gether. Josh Mc­Cown will start for the Jets on Sun­day. Darnold, who is deal­ing with a right foot strain, did not prac­tice for the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive day. Raiders: Oak­land de­fen­sive co­or­di­na­tor Paul Guen­ther de­nied there is any fric­tion be­tween him and coach Jon Gru­den and said the two re­main united in try­ing to im­prove a team that has been one of the big­gest dis­ap­point­ments in the NFL this sea­son. Cam­eras caught the two coaches get­ting into a heated ex­change af­ter a costly blown play in the Raiders’ 34-3 loss to San Fran­cisco a week ago. Obit: Wally Triplett, the trail­blaz­ing run­ning back who was one of the first African-Amer­i­cans drafted by an NFL team, has died. He was 92.
