Mount Holly pas­tor jailed, ac­cused of child sex­ual as­sault

A 61-year-old pas­tor in Mount Holly, North Carolina, was jailed with­out bail after po­lice ac­cused him of sex­u­ally as­sault­ing chil­dren at his church and in homes, the Gas­ton County Po­lice Depart­ment said in a news re­lease Thurs­day.

Po­lice ar­rested Jerry Lewis Fri­day, pas­tor of New Prov­i­dence Bap­tist Church on Old N.C. 27, at his Gas­to­nia home Wed­nes­day, ac­cord­ing to the po­lice news re­lease.

The pas­tor was charged with felony statu­tory sex of­fense, felony dis­sem­i­nat­ing ob­scene ma­te­rial to a mi­nor, four counts of felony in­de­cent lib­er­ties with a child and two counts of mis­de­meanor sex­ual bat­tery, jail records show.

The charges in­volve three chil­dren and var­i­ous in­ci­dents over the past two years, The Gas­ton Gazette re­ported.
