Couple charged in robbery, killing of man’s grandmother
A couple have been charged in last month’s slaying of the man’s grandmother.
Jason Mooney, 29, and Lisa Mooney, 33, were being held yesterday in Lawrence County jail on $1 million bond each. Mooney was charged with aggravated murder and aggravated burglary; his wife was charged with complicity to aggravated murder and complicity to aggravated burglary. They were arrested this week. Thelma Mooney, 84, was found dead, her throat cut, on Feb. 18 in her home, authorities said. She was the widow of former Ironton City Councilman Eugene Mooney.
Lawrence County Prosecutor J.B. Collier Jr. said authorities are continuing to investigate, and he declined to discuss details of the case. He said he hopes to take the case to a grand jury in this southern Ohio city next week.
Derick Fisher, attorney for Lisa Mooney, said yesterday that she is not guilty.
Warren Morford, attorney for Jason Mooney, said he also will plead not guilty.
