Rockies 8, Padres 6, 10 innings: Justin Morneau hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning, and host Colorado turned the third triple play in team history in a victory over San Diego yesterday.

After Carlos Gonzalez singled in the 10th, Morneau lined a 3-2 fastball from Dale Thayer (2-2) to straightaway center. It was the second gameending homer for Colorado this season.

The triple play in the third inning was Colorado’s first since Troy Tulowitzki turned an unassisted one on April 29, 2007, against Atlanta.

YESTERDAY’S HIGHLIGHTS

Nationals 6, Mets 3: Wilson Ramos drove in four runs and Jordan Zimmermann (3-1) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings for his first victory in three starts for host Washington. Earlier, the Nationals put left-hander Gio Gonzalez on the 15day disabled list because of inflammation in his left shoulder. Washington’s bullpen pitched 13 scoreless innings in the series. Tigers 6, Red Sox 2: Miguel Cabrera had three hits and two RBI and Ian Kinsler had four hits for Detroit, which swept a multigame series at Boston for the first time since 1983 and extended its road winning streak to 11 games. Anibal Sanchez, coming off the disabled list, allowed two runs, one earned, and five hits in five innings for the Tigers. Angels 6, Rays 2: Albert Pujols hit two solo home runs against David Price (4-4) and Matt Shoemaker (2-1) took a shutout into the seventh inning to lead host Los Angeles. Pujols’ homers gave him 504 for his career, tying Eddie Murray for 25th on the major-league list.

Notable

White Sox rookie first baseman Jose Abreu, who leads the major leagues in home runs with 15, has been placed on the 15-day DL because of tendinitis in his left ankle. Abreu left Saturday night’s game against the Astros because of a limp in the seventh inning. Abreu set rookie records for home runs (10), RBI (32), extra-base hits and total bases in April. He is hitting .260 with 41 RBI in 44 games.
