Todd earns first title on PGA Tour

Brendon Todd won the Byron Nelson Championsh­ip yesterday in Irving, Texas, closing with a bogey-free, 4-under-par 66 for a two-stroke victory over Mike Weir that gave him his first PGA Tour title.

It was the 77th career PGA Tour event for Todd, who finished at 14-under 266. Todd, 28, took the lead for good with birdies at Nos. 9 and 10 and went on to become the eighth first-time winner this season.

Weir finished with a 67. Charles Howell III and Marc Leishman tied for third at 10 under.

Champions Tour

Kenny Perry won his third Champions Tour major in the past year with a one-stroke victory over Mark Calcavecch­ia in the Regions Tradition in Birmingham, Ala.

Perry closed with an evenpar 72 to finish at 7-under 281, while other contenders had up-and-down days and John Cook lost the lead with a double hit.

Calcavecch­ia finished with a 70. Tom Lehman closed with a 67 to tie Jay Haas (71) at 5 under. Cook’s closing 72 put him three strokes back.

Perry won the Senior Players Championsh­ip and U.S. Senior Open in consecutiv­e tour starts last year, then skipped the Senior British Open.

Jack Nicklaus is the only other player to win the three events Perry has won.

LPGA Tour

Lizette Salas won the Kingsmill Championsh­ip for her first LPGA Tour title, finishing with even-par 71 for a four-stroke victory in Williamsbu­rg, Va.

She finished at 13-under 271.

PGA European Tour

Miguel Angel Jimenez won the Spanish Open in Girona in a three-way playoff to become the European Tour’s first winner over 50.

Jimenez beat Thomas Pieters of Belgium and Australia’s Richard Green in a playoff when he was the only one to make par on the first extra hole. All three players had finished at 4-under 284.
