Michigan blows past men’s hockey 10-6

Dylan Larkin had two goals and three assists, and Michigan protected an early lead and held off a third-period rally to defeat Ohio State 10-6 last night at Value City Arena.

The Wolverines (13-7, 5-1 Big Ten) jumped out to a 4-1 first-period lead and led 8-3 midway through the third.

Zach Hyman scored twice in the opening 5:38 of the game, and Larkin and Tyler Motte added power-play goals to close the first period.

Motte closed the second period with his second goal of the game to give Michigan a 7-3 lead.

Trailing by five, Ohio State’s Anthony Greco scored twice in eight seconds, and six minutes later Matt Johnson cut the Buckeyes’ deficit to two with 5:43 remaining.

The Buckeyes (7-11-2, 2-4) were outshot 39-37, but held a 15-7 advantage in the third period.

OSU goalie Matt Tomkins was pulled after allowing seven goals through 32 minutes. Logan Davis stopped six of eight shots before Larkin sent home an empty-net goal with 1:04 remaining.

Women’s hockey

Ohio State carried a six-game winning streak, including three shutouts, into last night’s game, but the Buckeyes have yet to find a winning formula against North Dakota.

Ohio State’s Stacy Danczak stopped 14 of 15 shots, but the lone goal by North Dakota’s Tanja Eisenschmi­d was enough to defeat the Buckeyes 1-0 at the OSU Ice Rink.

North Dakota leads the season series 2-0-1.

Eisenschmi­d’s goal, assisted by Josefine Jakobsen and Layla Marvin, came at 9:39 of the first period.

North Dakota’s Shelby Amsley-Benzie stopped 26 shots by Ohio State. The teams play again tonight.

Wrestling

Fourth-ranked Ohio State (6-3, 2-1 Big Ten) won seven of 10 matches in a 25-13 victory over host Michigan State (3-7, 0-4).

Logan Stieber (141 pounds) improved his record to 14-0 by pinning Terry Turner in 3 minutes, 9 seconds.

At 157 pounds, Josh Demas (11-1) shut out Josh Pennell 6-0 to give OSU a 14-7 lead.

Demas’ victory sparked an Ohio State run of five wins in six matches to close out the victory.

Ohio State will face Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sunday.

Swimming and diving

Ohio State diver Stephen Ettienne and swimmer Brayden Seal each set site records in the Buckeyes’ 189-111 victory over host Denison.

Ettienne won the 1meter diving with a record 360.08 points and the 3-meter with a record 390.30.

Seal set a pool-record time of 9:23.91 in the 1,000-meter freestyle.

The Ohio State women’s team won all 13 events in a 201.5-93.5 victory at Toledo.

Paige Kelly won the 1,000 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Rachael Dzierzak won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststro­ke, and diver Taylor Ford won the 1- and 3-meter events.

Volleyball

Ohio State (4-2) totaled 49 kills and 15 aces on the way to a four-set victory over Limestone College (1-4) at St. John Arena.

Nicolas Szerszen led OSU with 16 kills, as the 14th-ranked Buckeyes won 25-16, 22-25, 25-9 and 25-17.
