Rangers keep rolling at home; Predators in a scoring drought
Rangers 3, Predators 0: Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves in his second shutout of the season and New York beat Nashville on Monday night for its ninth straight victory at home.
Rick Nash, Derek Stepan and Kevin Hayes scored for the Rangers, who won for the ninth time in 10 games overall and improved to 16-3-2. New York’s 34 points are tied with Dallas and Montreal for most in the NHL.
The Predators have lost three straight, all by shutout. They haven’t scored in a franchiserecord 213 minutes, 47 seconds, since 6:13 of the second period last Tuesday against Anaheim.
Blues 2, Sabres 1: Troy Brouwer and Robby Fabbri scored thirdperiod goals, Jake Allen made 24 saves and St. Louis rallied to beat host Buffalo.
David Legwand scored with 3:15 left in the second period to put the Sabres in front. Buffalo is winless in its past five games, including two losses to the Blues in the past week.
St. Louis welcomed the return of forward Paul Stastny to the lineup. Stastny missed the previous 16 games because of a broken foot.
Kings 3, Panthers 1: Jonathan Quick bounced back from a poor performance and Alec Martinez scored the goahead goal late in the second period for visiting Los Angeles.
Quick stopped 31 shots, one day after getting pulled after giving up four goals on 21 shots through two periods at Carolina.
Florida goaltender Al Montoya exited at 11:22 of the first period after taking a hit to the shoulder and head by the Kings’ Nick Shore while diving to cover the puck.
Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 3, SO: David Krejci’s goal in the shootout gave visiting Boston its third victory in a row. Brad Marchand had a shorthanded goal for the Bruins, who also got scoring from Landon Ferraro and Zac Rinaldo. Ferraro was playing in his first game for Boston since being claimed off waivers from Detroit over the weekend.
Flyers 3, Hurricanes 2, OT: Shayne Gostisbehere scored on a power play just 24 seconds into overtime for host Philadelphia, which had to play extra time after blowing an early twogoal lead. All three Flyers goals came on special teams: Brayden Schenn made it 1-0 midway through the first period by scoring on a man advantage, and Claude Giroux scored shorthanded about five minutes later.
Capitals 1, Oilers 0: Dmitry Orlov scored with 6:32 left in the third period and Braden Holtby made 33 saves for host Washington.
Avalanche 4, Jets 1: Cody McLeod, Matt Duchene and Blake Comeau scored in the third period for visiting Colorado.
