The girl must choose whether to save the farm or the hostage.

free (1987): Set in the 19th century, the drama from director Bille August stars Max von Sydow as Lassefar, a poor Swedish widower with a young son, Pelle (Pelle Hvenegaard). The two travel in search of work for Lassefar but find only hardship. The movie won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1988 and an Oscar for best foreignlanguage film in 1989. A restored version will be screened.

(2016): French director Alain Guiraudie made the drama about a filmmaker (Damien Bonnard) who visits rural France seeking inspiration but is seduced by a shepherdess (India Hair) who, nine months later, bears his child and quickly abandons them. The film is not rated, but audience members must be 18 or older to attend.
