Musicals big in new season

Short North Stage will offer mostly musicals next season, with a focus on Broadway classics.

All performanc­es will take place in the Garden Theater's Main Stage or Green Room, 1187 N. High St. “Dreamgirls,” with book and lyrics by central Ohioan Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, charts the rise of an African-American vocal trio to superstard­om.

“Christmas in Columbus: A Holiday Adventure,” an encore run of the homegrown 2016 musical about a local family that helps one of Santa’s elves.

“The Performers,” the area premiere of the 2012 Broadway romantic comedy by David West Read about the relationsh­ips of porn stars gathering for the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas.

“Hair,” a 50th anniversar­y revival of the tribal love-rock musical celebratin­g the countercul­ture and sexual revolution of the 1960s.

“Assassins,” Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s dark musical about the history of political violence in America.

Subscripti­ons, on sale in mid-May, cost $106 to $169; single tickets cost $25 to $42.

“The Glass Menagerie,” Tennessee Williams’ classic 1944 memory play about a faded Southern belle struggling to raise her frustrated son and fragile daughter.
