Gorsuch honorable, good fit for court

-

I found last Saturday’s letter “Gorsuch wrong for Supreme Court” from the Rev. Susan Smith insulting. First, she quoted scripture that actually supports Justice Neil Gorsuch because of all I have heard and read of the man he is a true judge and does not take bribes, and I know of no one who has accused him of such.

It is true that he renders decisions based on what the law and the U.S. Constitution say, not what some people wish they said, and he doesn’t believe the Constitution is a living, breathing document; only those who believe in anarchy believe that it is.

There are legal ways to change the U.S. Constitution if the mores of society change.

If Smith truly believes the campaign-finance laws erroneously tilt justice to the wealthy, she lives in the greatest of nations and she is free to begin a movement to add an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to change it to read however she believes it should read.

Next, she seems to want the federal government to be the great equalizer of all the people. The government should ensure that all have an equal opportunity to reach the outcome in life they desire, not to guarantee some kind of equal outcome. If, as Smith states, 94 percent of her congregation calls money in politics a major problem, I proudly stand with the remaining 6 percent.
