Columbus school board must put children fi rst

-

As the mother of a student in Columbus City Schools, a fulltime employee, and a small- business owner, I don’t have much time to spare.

But when my child’s education suffers as City Hall siphons taxpayer funds away from public schools, I have to make time to ensure that Columbus puts our children first.

When our school system fails to provide every child with the resources he or she needs to succeed, I have to make time to do something about it.

More than anything, I love my child and I want to make Columbus a city in which he can thrive.

I know that, with new leaders who are passionate about putting working families first, we can create a public school system that helps our children learn, grow, and achieve.

We can meet the needs of all students, no matter what their zip codes are.

That’s why, in the primary election on May 2, I’m making time to vote for a brighter future for my child.

I urge readers to make time to do the same.

A slate of new candidates running for Columbus School Board has demonstrated an unprecedented commitment to our children.

Abby Vaile, Amy Harkins, and Erin Upchurch are running on platforms of expanding methods that work, prioritizing families over politics, and providing a quality education for every child in every neighborhood.

When City Hall creates tax breaks that hurt our schools, mothers don’t have the luxury of standing idly by.

We cannot allow the school board to fill up with officials who don’t listen to our families’ needs when other city officials are already ignoring them.

This May 2, I hope Columbus voters join me at the ballot box to vote for the candidates who have proven to be a voice for our children.
