Bruins, Canucks name new coaches

Two NHL teams named head coaches Wednesday.

The Boston Bruins announced they are bringing Bruce Cassidy back next season, dropping the interim tag from his title as a reward for leading the team back to the playoffs for the first time in three seasons.

The Vancouver Canucks named Travis Green their coach. He spent the last four seasons coaching the Canucks’ top minor-league affiliate. Princeton, announced he was reopening his recruitmen­t and decommitti­ng from the Buckeyes. A few hours later, four-star senior point guard prospect Mark Smith, of Edwardsvil­le, Illinois, announced he was signing with Illinois.

The 6-foot-7, 185-pound Bazley committed last August alongside close friend Justin Ahrens of Versailles. In a text message to The Dispatch, Ahrens said he remains fully committed to the program.

The Buckeyes have three available scholarshi­ps for this fall — four if Kam Williams does not return after declaring for the NBA draft but not hiring an agent. after agreeing on a two-year deal with the Raiders that paved the way for a trade to his hometown team in Oakland.

Lynch passed a physical Wednesday and agreed to a restructur­ed two-year contract. Those were the final steps needed before Seattle could trade his rights along with a 2018 sixthround pick to the Raiders for a 2018 fifth-rounder.

NFL Network said Lynch would get a $3 million base deal this season, with a chance to make an additional $2 million if he rushes for at least 1,000 yards. Vinci 7-5, 6-3 in the opening round of the Porsche Grand Prix on Wednesday.

The five-time Grand Slam champion and former No. 1 was earlier given a lukewarm welcome by 4,500 spectators, receiving a polite applause and some whistling when she entered the sold-out arena.
