Darby scores only TD of game, edges Davidson in OT

Clint Barnett scored the game’s only touchdown, in overtime, and Hilliard Darby edged visiting Hilliard Davidson 9-6 in a nonleague game Friday night.

Barnett, who only had three carries for 29 yards, broke free on third- and- 13 for a 23-yard TD run on Darby’s first OT possession.

The Wildcats ( 1- 1) took a 3- 0 first- quarter lead on a 38- yard field goal by Sean Carrier. Darby’s Blake Sawicki tied it at 3 in the second quarter from 30 yards, set up by a fumble recovery on Davidson’s 20- yard line.

The teams combined for 11 punts, and both missed fourth- quarter field- goal attempts, forcing overtime.

Carrier connected on a 37- yard field goal on Davidson’s opening OT possession before Darby took over. Ben Wright led the Wildcats with 44 yards rushing, and Christian Sweet boasted the longest gain in regulation, a 16- yard run.

The Panthers ( 1- 1) gained just 77 total yards, all rushing.

Westervill­e Central (1-1) scored 21 consecutiv­e points in the second half on the way to a win over visiting Upper Arlington (1-1). Down 14-10, Isaiah Healy threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Gilkey, then ran for a 33-yard TD run to put the Warhawks up 24-14. UA’s Sam Sass tossed two touchdown passes to Will Robbins but also threw two intercepti­ons, including one in the fourth quarter to Ryan Hallihan, who returned it 56 yards for a game-clinching touchdown. Allen Smith led Central with 141 yards rushing.

Four players scored rushing touchdowns, and host Marysville (1-1) shut out Delaware (1-1). Deven Slaubaugh carried 10 times for 119 yards for the Monarchs, who led 21-0 at halftime. Thomas Rush added 73 yards on the ground and scored the final touchdown on a 16-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Dublin Coffman (2-0) gained just 203 total yards, but the Shamrocks’ defense forced five turnovers in earning a shutout win over host Dublin Scioto (0-2). Dustin Drye picked off two passes, returning them for 83 total yards in helping Coffman take a 24-0 halftime lead. Gavin Sturdivant rushed for 45 yards and scored two first-quarter touchdowns for the Shamrocks. Demeatric Crenshaw amassed 200 yards of total offense and scored two touchdowns as host Pickeringt­on Central (2-0) held off Indianapol­is Cathedral (0-3). Jamir Jackson totaled 80 yards and two touchdowns on the ground for the Tigers. After Cathedral rallied from a 13-0 deficit to lead 14-13, Crenshaw scored on runs of 24 and 12 yards in the second half for a 25-14 lead, and the Tigers held on.

Josh Stewart produced 249 yards of offense and accounted for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) as visiting Hilliard Bradley (2-0) routed New Albany (1-1). Kory Taylor had eight catches for 76 yards and a score and Daevon Anderson managed six catches for 95 yards and a TD for Bradley. Trey Warner added a 65-yard punt return touchdown with a 1-yard TD grab for the Jaguars. New Albany quarterbac­k Paxton Hunter threw for 125 yards.

Daniel Bangura amassed 470 yards rushing and scored six touchdowns for host Harvest Prep (2-0), which downed Franklin Heights (0-2). Bangura, who scored five TDs on the ground, added a 28-yard reception and nine tackles on defense.

Jaxon Gregory completed 12 of 15 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns to lead visiting Mount Vernon (1-1) over Newark (0-2). Logan Tate and Wyatt Gregory combined for 150 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Yellow Jackets.
