Girl gets surgery, but could be deported

-

HOUSTON — A 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who entered the United States from Mexico without permission a decade ago could face deportation after she had to cross a Border Patrol checkpoint in southern Texas for emergency gallbladder surgery, a family lawyer said Thursday.

Immigration advocates are protesting Rosa Maria Hernandez’s case and say the Border Patrol should show more discretion in the cases of sick children who are in the U.S. illegally but need medical treatment.

Leticia Gonzalez, an attorney for the Hernandez family, said Thursday that Rosa Maria was taken with a cousin from the Texas border city of Laredo to a children’s hospital in Corpus Christi about 150 miles away. Gonzalez said Border Patrol agents allowed the girl and her cousin to pass but followed the hospital vehicle taking them. At the hospital, agents stood watch, and after her surgery, they took her to a federal facility in San Antonio for unaccompanied minors who are in the U.S. illegally.

If the girl is eventually released to a sponsor approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she would undergo processing and could be deported. Gonzalez said it could be several weeks before she is released. during Hurricane Maria. The 2-year-old company had just two full-time employees when the storm hit last month.

The Interior Department has denied that Zinke, a former Montana congressman, played any role in the contract award.

Ricardo Ramos, the power authority’s executive director, said in a radio interview Thursday that Whitefish is doing an “excellent job,” adding that he has no intention of canceling the contract. “There’s been nothing illegal here,” Ramos said. this week and missed several House votes, including Thursday’s close budget vote.

“She chose to stay home for safety reasons. We have received a lot of threats. She will be returning next week,” said Joyce Jones, a spokeswoman for Wilson.

Russian foreign-ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told state news agency RIA Novosti that Twitter’s move is “another aggressive step” aimed at blocking RT. She also hinted at retaliation.
