“We didn’t have a lot of puck luck,” Tortorella said. “Allen made some key saves. Some of them I don’t even think he saw the puck. But the team that won tonight deserved to win.”

Allen wound up with 36 saves.

Atkinson left the game in the second period because of an apparent lower-body injury and saw just 1:32 of ice time in the third. He was replaced by rookie Pierre-Luc Dubois on the line with Boone Jenner and Dubinsky. Tortorella said after the game he hadn’t talked to team trainers and didn’t have an update on Atkinson’s injury.

Later in the period, as the Jackets killed off their 14th consecutive power play, Matt Calvert had a golden chance, but couldn’t score the team’s first short-handed goal of the season. He did score, though, receiving a cross-ice pass from Oliver Bjorkstrand and beating Allen with a high shot.
