Honda CR-V is magazine’s top SUV pick
The Ohio-made Honda CR-V is Motor Trend magazine’s 2018 SUV of the year, a coveted award in the fiercely competitive SUV segment.
It is the second time in three years that the CR-V has won this trophy, having received the honor in 2015.
Motor Trend announced the results late on Monday. The list also includes the Alfa Romeo Giulia as Car of the Year and Ford’s F-150 as Truck of the Year. CR-V is the main product of Honda’s assembly plant in East Liberty. The vehicle’s engine is made in Anna, and the transmission is made in Russells Point.
“It’s clear that Honda sweats the details,” the magazine says.
“The CR-V is not just roomy, well-built and wellequipped. It’s also thoughtfully conceived and executed. It has space for your stuff. It won’t punish you at the pump. It keeps you safe on the road. It’s packed with features at an affordable price. It’s even fun to drive when you want it to be. And it’s made in the U.S. and Canada to boot.”
Ed Loh, Motor Trend’s editor-in-chief, said, “Overall, it’s the best in one of the toughest classes around.”
Honda has sold 308,706 units of the CR-V this year through October, which is up 5 percent from last year. The model is the country’s top-selling SUV and Honda’s second-best seller, behind the Civic.
In addition to East Liberty, Honda makes the model in Greensburg, Indiana, and Alliston, Ontario.
The 2017 award, given in late 2016, was the MercedesBenz GLC-Class. CR-V was selected by Motor Trend over three other finalists: the Volvo XC60, the Volkswagen Atlas and the Land Rover Discovery.
“We are incredibly honored to earn this recognition from the experts at Motor Trend in a very competitive and crowded field,” said Jeff Conrad, general manager of the Honda brand, in a statement.
